Entry Requirements

Grades 9-4 in English and four GCSEs at grades 9-4 or A*- C. Merit or above in a related vocational Level 2 qualification will also be accepted.

Proven practical ability to at least grade 5 at an instrument (or voice) is essential. You need a real love of music and a willingness to push yourself as a musician.

The Music Performance & Production  at Itchen Sixth Form College offers an immersive and hands-on learning experience for aspiring musicians, performers, and producers. What You Will Explore

Throughout the course, you will dive into:

  • Performance techniques: Develop your skills as a solo artist and ensemble performer.
  • Music production: Learn about recording, mixing, and mastering tracks using industry-standard equipment and software.
  • Composition and song-writing: Experiment with creating original music for diverse genres and purposes.
  • Music theory and analysis: Deepen your understanding of music styles and structures.
  • Live sound and event production: Gain experience in setting up and managing live performances.
  • Music industry insights: Explore the business side of music, including marketing, promotion, and career planning.

The vast majority of your study will be practical and centred around performing and making music. The units of study focus on solo and ensemble performance and putting on live gigs and learning how to record.

The course is based firmly on popular music, although you will also learn about performing in other styles. During the course you will perform on a number of different occasions, ranging from gigs in the Student Centre to showcases at external venues. You will also plan and run music events yourself.

You will spend a lot of your time working practically on our suite of iMacs which run Logic Pro (industry standard recording and sequencing software). You will be encouraged to explore your musicality and to create original material using the latest technology.
